Wishlist

Fujifilm X10, I can't remember the last time I've been this tempted by a digital camera...
X10
Well to be fair, I was a bit tempted when it's elder brother, the X100, was launched but the price was a turn off. This one may be a stripped down version of the X100, but there are some things I like about it - Full HD video mode and zoom lens.

Image from Guido ... I want that black and white ladybird on the X100 shutter button too!
It seems I may have to clear out my dry cabinet to make a space for this fella...

New Skins

It took a month of patient waiting, but my new camera skins finally arrived!

I decided to go with a custom made skin for the Oly Trip 35, and if it looks familiar that's because you've seen it somewhere before.

The old skin needed to be removed and the body cleaned before the new skin can be applied. It's so simple that even I (with multiple bubbles of dirt under my iPhone screen protector) can apply it almost flawlessly.

I ❤ Oly Trip

There may have been 10 million Trips that have passed through the manufacturing plants, but I'm sure there's only one like this. I have an idea for another skin design, we'll see in a couple of months time!

Left Behind

After coming back from a long CNY break, I realised I left something at home.

Ever since I've bought my DSLR, I've rarely had time to even touch the good ol' Olympus PnS that I had earlier. Sometimes, I even forget that I still have that camera. Kesian nyer... Sometimes I wonder why do I drag along such a huge camera for travel while I leave the small convenient PnS behind... I hope not anymore. I will put this Oly to good use starting from now.

Oh and by the way, this post is dedicated to people who have recently bought a DSLR or are going to buy one soon. I'm sure one of the reasons that you all are considering buying a DSLR is because you have felt the limitations of your previous cameras. So, don't be like me and chuck it aside after you have found your new love... but instead use it! Let me show you what you can do with it.

1) THROW IT AWAY

If for some reason you decide to choose option number 1, please contact me first. I want to come over your place and see for myself if money grows from the trees in your backyard.

2) USE IT AS A PAPERWEIGHT
Tired of the wind/fan blowing your papers away? Fear no more...

3) AS A DOOR STOPPER
Well, this is self explanatory.

4) AS A GUITAR PICK
For all you guitar players out there, try it. And this will be one hard pick to lose...

5) GHOST HUNTING
Afraid of looking at a ghost straight in the face? Well, now you don't have to.
Enjoy!

580 EX II Speedlite

Just got the 580 EX II external speedlite. It is supposed to be the improved version of its predecessor the 580EX.

View from the front

Side

The back

The bounce card and the wide angle card
It does look magnificent. So i had to put it to test in my studio.

This shot was taken without any flash.

This shot was taken with the built in flash. As you can see the lighting is very harsh on the subject (the bottles) and quite dark behind. This is often the results of Point and Shoot cameras where the user does not really have control of the flash and you have your subject very harshly lit and the background very dark.

This shot was taken with the flash bounced off the ceiling. As you can see it has a more natural feel to it. Actually the results may not be so obvious here but if you have human subjects then the difference will be significant.

Here's a pic with the whole family.
