Haven't been shooting any personal stuff for a pretty long time. Every photographer will tell you that making time to shoot personal projects is always a good thing, I guess you learn a lot of new things along the way and it gives you a chance to find out what you are really passionate about.

Took a while to plan this. The cleanup after the shoot was terrible and my hands were all stained. And the colors are not photoshopped in :)

On my recent trip to Miri/Brunei, I saw the unique windows at the Marriot Hotel in Miri and I just had to take this shot :)

DeFORKmity

Since I did the Inferiority Complex shot earlier, I noticed that one of the fork was a bit bent. It gave me an idea for setting up this shoot. I was thinking of naming it 'What the FORK?' initially, but eventually decided for 'DeFORKmity.' I think that best explains what's going on in the pic.

Love - Part 2

After posting up the first picture I shot entitled LOVE, I was given a suggestion to try shooting it with two rings instead of one. Here's the result!
To all the wedding photographers, this will look good with two rings, the groom's and the bride's. I used a keychain ring here because I don't have a ring I can use for this shot. Me thinks it will even be better if you can set it up so that you can see the names engraved on the ring (if any)...

Love

This shot was not an original idea, but inspired from other similar shots that I've seen. Had to give it a try though...

The passage is from 1 Corinthians 13 where Paul talks about love. It contains the famous passage about love below:

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Lemon

I had an idea to shoot something like this quite a while back. From the conception of the idea to the final result seen here took a blardy long time. LOL. Maybe I'll write another post sometime later after I group together all the test shots I've taken and adjustments made till the final result.

Was trying to do a certain 'Michael Grecco' inspired shot but failed miserably. Anyway, after fooling around with the flash, managed to get these shots. Never underestimate the power of...er...fooling around i guess.

This was a hard shot. Shot this a lot of times and only managed to get one nice jump.

18SX: Nude photos

Was having a discussion with fellow photographer WSPang yesterday about shooting creatively with lighting and somehow the topic turned to this. Since we are young photographers who push our art to the ...er....limits of creativity, I thought of giving this a shot. Please be warned, anyone under 18, you know what to do ah. After all nude photography is a very common art practiced and appreciated by many. If you are not easily offended, carry on. If yes, you have a choice not to see ok?

So you're still here eh...Hehe. Ok I'll give you some insight to how I construct a shot. Well obviously we'll need a subject, so I'll volunteer for it this time. Next time anyone want model for me don't hesitate to let me know. We'll also need something avantgarde...something abstract, beautiful and complicated, yet appealing to art lovers. So I've decided to go for a shot of the family jewels - ball and stick. If you have no idea what I'm talking about...maybe you shouldn't be here. Heheh

Now on to the technicalities. I want to show something, yet not too much. So I've decided to shoot in the dark (also helps a lot coz my neighbors behind can see what I do very clearly wan). Based on previous shots I've had with a strobe in the dark, I guess 1/20 seconds is a good enough shutter speed and an aperture of f/9 was chosen to give it enough details. I placed an off camera flash at 1/128th power as well 45 degrees to one side and set the timer. The first shot was underexposed so the aperture was opened up to f/7.1. Still with me?

On the next shot, I got the results I was looking for. So want to see how my nude photo turned out? Heheh...scroll down.

Heheh. Ok o not?

Actually its from a fruit called 'tarap' that was given to me by one of my colleagues. It looks like a jackfruit yet tastes different. So, you disappointed or relieved?

Someone is buying a laptop soon... So these pics are shot for you. Heheh...Notice the nice sexy curves? Shot with an off camera flash with the help of the ST-E2. Flash fired from left side at 1/64 power.

Flash also fired from left and also GOBOed to make sure none of it spills to unwanted places. I like this one better...flash at 1/128 power.

Product Shoot

Recently, I've been thinking how to utilise my external flash. I've also been reading up a lot on lighting, so naturally a product shoot is in order (I've stopped long exposure shots with lighters and torchlights for the time being too coz my neighbors behind me are staring at my room - probably wondering what I'm doing ...)

This is the product shot in plain ambient lighting. Nothing too impressive.

The black cloth is actually one of my black t shirts placed on a chair.
As you can see from this shot, I switched off the lights in the room and used two sources of light. One from my external flash and the other from a torchlight lit from behind. I kind of like this shot but the wrinkles on the cloth are a bit distracting and the subject doesn't look round on the left side.

So I opted for the flashlight to be at 45 degrees to the left, changed the position of the subject and this is the final result. Its actually amazing how subtle changes in lighting can give a very drastic change to the picture. More to come...
